Leah shares, “Someone sitting next to me in a women’s bar said ‘there is a church that welcomes Gay and Lesbians’. I was thrilled, “when could I go?”
You see, she had a great belief in God but felt deserted by God when a woman read me the bad verses in the Bible about ‘us’. That was so long ago. She thought even God didn’t love her, she even made a serious attempt on her life at all of 19 years old. Then she tried all kinds of ways to be in ‘God’s favor’ but still was not comfortable. When she finally walked into MCC in the Valley in 1974, thanks to the bar stool buddy, she got to know Christ – and felt so good and loved. She has had so many years of involvement with this church since then.
She has come to have such faith that she simply, gently shares with many people. She grooms dogs at people’s homes and gets to know her customers so well. She gets to touch on faith in their regular sharing and has felt it’s a direct and personal contact ministry. She has always felt supported and loved by so many at this church – they have helped her heart to fly. She is especially thrilled with the current pastor, the Rev. Dr. Pat Langlois, for she knows her also as a friend who does walk the walk.
