Christy has worked in employment and human resources for over 25 years. A Los Angeles native, Christy grew up in a Catholic home and was the first in her large extended family to attend college. As a junior at USC in the early 1980’s, she came out.
After a layoff caused her to rethink her profession, Christy began working at the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center as an employment counselor and would eventually go on the manage the Employment and Training Services department, and later founded The Center’s first Human Resources department. During her tenure as Human Resources Director, she participated in union contract negotiations, created the middle management team development group, participated as a member of the Executive Management team, and oversaw the growth of the organization from 60 to over 200 employees developing policies and procedures to improve diversity. She also worked at Project New Hope, a project of Episcopal Diocese, helping People Living with AIDS retrain and return to work. Her current position is as Human Resources Director at a Latino civil rights law firm has deepened her legal knowledge of human resources issues .
Christy is a social justice advocate and a skilled negotiator who is passionate about inclusion and representation. She first came to the MCC United Church of Christ in 2018 and has been an active member since 2020. Christy hopes to assist with church systems, policies and practices; member outreach and recruitment; and capital campaign to upgrade and refurbish the church facilities.
