Rev. Megan More, Staff Clergy

Rev. Megan More, Staff Clergy MCC UCC in the ValleyRev. Micaela Megan C. More, M.Div, B.A.

Rev. Megan’s road to ministry actually started with teaching school. She loves to teach, and when that career ended due to injury, and with the loss of her daughter, a new path opened, thanks to her former senior pastor. She became more receptive to ministry in 2006 when she joined MCC in the Valley and was then encouraged to enter seminary to become a reverend. This she did with no regrets, and the full support of her late wife, Leslie. She was then ordained into the MCC five years later, and then transferred to the UCC about two years after that.
She has always been spiritual, but not dogmatic or religious, since with a history background, she didn’t trust “organized” religion. “Thankfully, the UCC is not that organized, so it fit!” she shares. Nevertheless, once she was ordained, she was faced with her wife suffering from dementia, and she was dealing with severe depression and stress. She retired immediately to take care of her, and her dreams and goals were put on the back burner. Once she was able to place Leslie in a care home, she was able to devote more time to the church’s needs, and her own. During all that time though she preached when possible, which energizes her and which she loves, and also continues to do spiritual outreach into elements of the Trans community. All of this has provided her with a strong sense of purpose and mission, and helping others help themselves is a passion and a blessing.
The UCC has provided a fulfilling church home for her, and with an upbringing in a liberal branch of the Lutheran church, it was an ideal fit. She has never felt so complete, and filled with so much joy and passion, and especially love for others. The many tragedies in her life has also taught her how precious life is, and deepened her own love for all people, and all of nature, and especially for God. She has also, as a transwoman, gained a much stronger love of herself, and positive pride in her accomplishments against so many odds. She always pray that others can enjoy the good fortunes that she has had.
